The Centre for Adolescent Health: supporting the healthy development of young people

Synopsis: Spanning the three campus partners, the Centre for the Adolescent Health has driven actions for adolescent health over the past 33 years with the intention of understanding and promoting the healthy development of young people, locally and globally. Newly appointed as a professor of adolescent health, Professor Peter Azzopardi will share his personal journey in adolescent health, and in doing so will celebrate the legacy of the late Professor George Patton.

Chair: Professor Susan Sawyer AM holds the Geoff and Helen Handbury Chair of Adolescent Health, Department of Paediatrics, The University of Melbourne and is the Director of the RCH Centre for Adolescent Health, a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Adolescent Health.

Presenter: Professor Peter Azzopardi leads a program of research focusing on global adolescent health and well-being. He co-chairs WHO’s Global Action for Measurement of Adolescent Health initiative, is a member of WHO’s Strategic and Technical Advisory Group of Experts, was a Commissioner on the 2016 Lancet Commission on Adolescent Health and is making a leading contribution to the 2nd Lancet Commission for Adolescent Health and Wellbeing. Professor Azzopardi also co-leads a research group on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adolescent health at Telethon Kids Institute.
