Kids and Teens Pelvic Pain Clinical Network launch

Today, Minister for Health Ingrid Stitt MP launched the Kids and Teens Pelvic Pain Clinical Network, a new statewide paediatric service for young people under 18 experiencing pelvic pain at The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH).

The service is supported by the Victorian Government.

Developed with young people, it offers:

  • easy to understand information
  • practical tips and advice in plain language
  • support to help you and your young person navigate health services.

The service will offer a suite of online resources, including factsheets, videos and illustrations, that provide holistic, multidisciplinary information on topics such as:

  • periods
  • pain management
  • gut health
  • activity and movement
  • identity and wellbeing.

This youth-focused service is designed to empower young people, families, carers, and healthcare providers with trusted information and clear pathways to care.

How it works

  • Anyone can access the service’s online resources on the RCH’s website and social media channels.
  • Young people wanting more information can submit a digital triage form to provide further information about their symptoms and needs.
  • The RCH navigation nurse will review the information and provide tailored resources and support options. This may include a 30-minute virtual consultation where necessary.
  • During the consultation, the nurse will assess whether the young person may be eligible for support from paediatric and adolescent specialists across the state.
  • Eligibility will depend on:
  • where they live
  • whether they have a regular GP they see currently
  • the support and services they’ve already accessed.
  • Where appropriate, a referral to a specialist service will be arranged.
  • Young people accessing the service will receive a follow-up virtual consultation after three months.

The service does not provide diagnosis, treatment, or prescribing services, but focuses on education, support and care navigation.
