A new series of resources from raisingchildren.net.au provides parents and carers of children with disability and developmental delay with practical advice about getting started in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) helps children with disability or developmental delay get the services, support and equipment they need to grow, develop and thrive.

raisingchildren.net.au has recently released a series of new resources to help parents and carers navigate the process of applying to access the NDIS, support their child’s access to the NDIS, how to manage if you disagree with an NDIS decision and how to manage plan budgets and funds.

The new resources include 10 new articles:

1. Your child’s NDIS plan: developing and getting a plan
2. Your child’s NDIS goals: how to develop goals 
3. Your child’s NDIS support budgets: how they work 
4. NDIS access requests: when your child’s request is unsuccessful
5. NDIS access requests and plans: when you want a review
6. Your child’s NDIS plan: what to do if your circumstances change
7. Your child’s NDIS funds: options for managing them
8. Your child’s NDIS plan: scheduled reviews
9. Support for children with disability: not funded by the NDIS
10. The NDIS: reasonable and necessary supports

Two Easy English booklets about the NDIS have also been developed. These booklets, which use simple language and supporting images, are for people who have difficulty reading English. Parents and carers will get the most benefit from these booklets when they read them with a support worker or other helper.

raisingchildren.net.au is currently developing more NDIS resources specifically supporting LGBTIQ+ families, families living in rural and remotes areas, and parents with intellectual disability.

The NDIS resources have been funded by the National Disability Insurance Agency through an Information, Linkages and Capacity Building Grant, which is administered by the Department of Social Services.
