$1050The Child Public Health Professional Development Program is offered as a Masters level subject through the University of Melbourne, but is also open to professionals who are interested in completing the course as part of their continued professional development.
About the program
The Child Public Health Professional Development Program provides an overview of the factors that influence the health, development and wellbeing of children and the implications of these factors on the life course. Using the ecological model as its framework, the subject explores a range of contemporary child health issues, including but not limited to education and care environments, the impact of poverty and disadvantage, indigenous and cross-cultural issues, nutrition, integrated service delivery, and child-focused policy development. The program provides participants with skills and knowledge to understand and respond to child public health issues.
Participants
This program is available to those with an interest in children’ health and wellbeing, public health, community child health, and community paediatrics. Individuals may wish to do the subject as part of their continuing educational qualification or for professional development purposes.
Course outcome: Participants will increase their knowledge and understanding of the factors influencing child health and well being in the public health context. Participants will also develop their capacity to respond effectively to child public health issues in their own community and work environment.
Course objectives: The subject is designed to enable participants to:
- Develop an understanding of factors that influence the health, development and well-being of children and the implications of these factors on the life course.
- Increase their knowledge of the principles underpinning public health approaches to the health, development and wellbeing of children, through exploration of contemporary child public health issues, policy and practice.
- Gain experience in addressing contemporary child public health issues.
Course facilitators: The Child Public Health Professional Development Program is coordinated by The Royal Children’ Hospital Centre for Community Child Health and the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and is a subject of the The University of Melbourne’s Department of Paediatrics.
Dates: 14, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21 July 2016 (6 days)
Note: Course dates do not include Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July 2016.
