Group facilitation for mental health practitioners

The Department of Education and Training funded the Centre’s Training and Development team to deliver small group facilitation workshops to more than 150 mental health practitioners in Victorian secondary schools.

Small Group Facilitation workshops have been held across the Melbourne metropolitan areas well as Swan Hill, Benalla, Seymour, Bendigo and Leongatha regions.

Informed by the Family Partnership Model (Davis, Day, Bidmead, Centre for Parent and Child support, 2002), the two-day Small Group Facilitation workshop aims to increase participants’:

  • appreciation of the characteristics of facilitation that reflects partnership
  • awareness of the skills and qualities of an effective facilitator
  • understanding of the tools and techniques of facilitation that reflect adult learning principles
  • awareness of the process of content development and planning for training facilitation
  • awareness of the use of reflection as both a learning tool for participants and facilitators

Mental Health Practitioners will find this workshop relevant to their work in mental health prevention, promotion and early intervention with small groups within school settings.
