In the media: ‘Invest early in children rather than play catch-up’

On Thursday 10 March, Professor Sharon Goldfeld spoke on the ABC’s Life Matters radio program about the latest Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) results.

The 2015 results represents the third set of national data on children’s development in Australia. The Centre for Community Child Health lead the first and second data collections on Australia’s children. Now, the Centre is a leader in terms of Australian Early Development Census research; recent work has examined children’s mental health outcomes and how bilingual Australian children are faring as they start primary school.

‘Interestingly, the language and cognitive domain has improved over time, and the other domains have stayed pretty stable’, Professor Goldfeld said.

To hear more about the 2015 results and what this means for Australia’s future prosperity, listen to the podcast.
