The RCH appoints its new Chief Executive Officer

The Royal Children’s Hospital is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer, John Stanway.

Mr Stanway had been acting in the CEO role since the departure of Professor Christine Kilpatrick in April.

RCH Chairman, the Hon Rob Knowles AO, said John’s appointment followed an extensive recruitment process that included a very strong field of candidates. He said Mr Stanway’s leadership-style and vision were what made him the right person to take the RCH into the future.

Under his leadership as acting CEO, the RCH has delivered Australian-first models of care and innovation that have increased the efficiency and quality of patients’ care, Mr Knowles added.

Prior to acting as CEO, John was the RCH’s Chief Operating Officer for more than 10 years, overseeing clinical operations. From 2012, John also held the position of Deputy CEO.

Before joining The Royal Children’s Hospital, John managed Monash Medical Centre, was Chief Executive of the Transport Accident Commission and held various senior management roles at General Motors Holden.

John has a double major in Economics and a Graduate Diploma in Industrial Relations and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. John was also President of the Victorian Hospitals Industrial Association and Chairman for 10 years.

He is also the proud father of three, has been married to Marie for 37 years, and was born in Melbourne.
