RCH Open Board Meeting

RCH-Building-SmallThe RCH Board is the peak decision-making entity of the hospital.

“The Board Directors and Chairman are directly accountable to the Victorian Government, and the Victorian community, for the work we do at the hospital,” CEO Professor Christine Kilpatrick said.

A growing body of international literature now confirms the central role that boards play in setting and sustaining the culture, as well as the operational performance, of the organisations they serve.

“With this in mind, and in the spirit of engagement and transparency, the RCH Board will hold an open access meeting in the Ella Latham Auditorium next month,” Professor Kilpatrick said.

Community members are invited to attend.

The agenda will include:

  • Presentation and discussion of the proposed 2015/16 RCH Budget
  • Progress towards the RCH Centre of Excellence in Mental Health
  • Progress towards the  RCH Clinician Compact
  • Audience and Board questions and discussion.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday September 8, from 5.30 pm (sharp) to 6.45 pm, in the Ella Latham Auditorium, The Royal Children’s Hospital, 50 Flemington Rd, Parkville.

The RCH compact does not seem to be influencing the behaviour of staff toward some patients and toward other practitioners, and does not appear to be adhered to by the Board Chair in his role in other organisations. Fortunately, one of the root causes of bad behaviour, the national regulator, is now being investigated.

Contact from the RCH would be a show of the intent of the RCH compact, and an intention to move beyond behaviours that have resulted in compromise of professional behaviour and of patient care.

I look forward to participation in the open board meeting this year.
