Dr Mick Creati continues his work with the World Health Organization to develop a set of core competencies for health workers who manage adolescent patients. This set of
competencies will serve as basis for curriculum design and training activities in developing countries.
Mick recently visited the school of Nursing, Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, and Ministry of Health, Malaysia, to explore means of realistically incorporating these
competency standards into future training activities in these countries.
In Malaysia, Mick was hosted by Dr. Nik Rubiah, Dr.Nazrila Hairizan, and Dr Thiyagar Nadarajan, all of whom have spent considerable time studying and working at the
Centre for Adolescent Health, and have now returned to Malaysia and become the
main drivers in improving Adolescent Health at national level.
This work will continue until 2013, and be expanded into other countries, in collaboration with, and support from, the AusAID funded Women’s and Children’s Knowledge Hub, Burnet Institute and World Health Organization.
