Dr Silja Kosola is a clinician and researcher who has worked both in hospitals and in the Finnish school healthcare system. Dr Kosola finished her PhD on long-term outcomes of pediatric liver transplantation in 2013.
She came to the CAH as a research fellow for a year in June 2015 to work with data from the Childhood to Adolescence Transition Study to broaden her knowledge of population health studies in children and adolescents. For several reasons, Dr Kosola became involved in other adolescent health research as well. In October, she led a literature review of school healthcare systems for the DET. During her year at CAH, Dr Kosola also participated in writing a systematic review of protective factors for resilience and began collaboration with a research group studying the outcomes of adolescent and young adult cancer survivors.
Having a full year dedicated to research and working with so many enthusiastic and talented people were wonderful experiences. Dr Kosola gained a new network of researchers and clinicians that she hopes to collaborate with also in the future. Besides her time at the CAH, Dr Kosola also enjoyed spending time in the magnificent Australian nature with her husband and two, now bilingual, children.
