Dr Lucas Calais Ferreira awarded Early Career Research Grant

Dr Lucas Calais Ferreira of the Justice Health Unit (JHU) and Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics (CEB) has been awarded an Early Career Research Grant from the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS), The University of Melbourne.

Collaborating with the Victorian Department of Health, and Dr Jesse Young of the JHU and CEB, this project will create a population cohort of young twin pairs (14-29 years) born in Victoria, with their state-wide linked health and medical records.

The cohort study will allow the investigation of familial factors for self-harm and suicide in young people and improve the identification of young people from families at higher risk of self-harm and suicide. This project will generate a novel knowledge base to inform optimal suicide prevention strategies for young people and their families.

Congratulations to Lucas on being awarded this highly sought after grant!
