Justice Health Unit features at 1st World Conference on Health in Detention

Prof Stuart Kinner, Head, Justice Health Unit, University of Melbourne, and Justice Health Group, MCRI along with A/Prof Rohan Borschmann and Louise Southalan, featured at the 1st World Conference on Health in Detention held in Geneva from 27-29 June 2022. The Justice Health Unit (JHU), along with the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) and the Worldwide Prison Health Research and Engagement Network (WEPHREN) were partners in the conference which was organized by the the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with co-sponsorship from the World Health Organization Office for Europe (WHO/Europe).

Stuart and Rohan, pictured below, delivered an invited plenary titled Health and detention: Using evidence and data to drive policy reform and improve health outcomes for people exposed to incarceration under the theme From policy to practice: people at the centre to improve health for all.

Louise presented on Making the Visible Invisible: Health research and policy.  Louise and Stuart also co-presented on WEPHREN: Developing international detention health research collaborations.

Our presentations were very well received and this inaugural conference, in which JHU was a partner, was an outstanding success.
