With over 25% of the world’s population aged between 10 and 24 years, today’s generation of young people is the largest in human history. The Global Adolescent Health short course by The University of Melbourne’s (and the Centre for Adolescent Health) is a fantastic opportunity for anyone working with adolescents and young adults to boost their capabilities.
This intensive 8-week online course (6 weeks of active teaching) explores the dynamic factors affecting the health and wellbeing of young people around the world, and how important it is for individuals, communities and nations that we improve the health and life chances of this important population group.
Prepared and presented by adolescent health experts, Professors Susan Sawyer and George Patton with knowledgeable guest speakers. The course is comprised of a series of weekly 3 to 15-minute audio-visual lectures, where students learn about the social determinants of adolescent health, how the changes that occur during adolescence and puberty affect the brain as well as major health and social issues that affect young people globally (major risky behaviours) and even how we can aim to improve on investing in the healthcare for 25% of the world’s population – youth!
Students work through the program at their own pace and in their own time, and can engage with other students online.
Enrolment is simple, there are no prerequisites, and it costs nothing.
