Congratulations Tina

On #WorldNoTobaccoDay the Centre for Adolescent Health congratulates staff member Tina Hosseini on her well-deserved Asia Pacific Conference on Tobacco or Health (APACT) ‘Youth Leader’ scholarship. As a scholarship recipient, Tina will participate in a four-day leadership program in Bali, Indonesia (12 – 15 September 2018) that will be hosted by the 12th Asia Pacific Conference on Tobacco or Health.

50 youth applicants from across Asia Pacific have been selected to represent a range of countries, disciplines, roles and sectors, with the purpose of developing their knowledge and skills around tobacco control. The goal of this program is to develop the capacity of a select group of current and future leaders in the Asia Pacific to advance tobacco control with a focus on discrediting the tobacco industry.

The aims of the program are to:

  • Engage the successful applicants as leaders and advocates in the tobacco control movement and against tobacco industry.
  • Educate them on the manipulative and deceptive marketing tactics used by the tobacco industry, and educate youth with the resources to take action.
  • Provide them with the skills to plan and execute a campaign strategy to counter the tobacco industry interference.
  • Provide opportunities for collaboration to address tobacco through a lens of global health, sustainability, and creating action.

Tina Hosseini currently works as a Community Relations Officer with Communities That Care (@CTCAustralia), a prevention based adolescent research project. She is a current Commissioner with the Victorian Multicultural Commission and an active member of the Victorian Red Cross Board. Previously Tina was chair of the Red Cross Victorian Youth Advisory Committee, the Multicultural Youth Network and was the Youth Chair of the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia.
