Dr Peter Azzopardi presented a workshop on high risk youth as part of the RCH clinical practice update for Victorian paediatricians in June 2011. The workshop
set out to answer 3 key questions: Who are high risk youth? What are their health needs? And, how best do we provide health care to this group of young people? The workshop focused on the role that paediatricians can play in caring for high risk young people.
Dr Azzopardi explored aspects of how to engage young people, how to deliver ‘adolescent friendly’ health services, and how to support and advocate for their appropriate access to health services.
The workshop builds on the expertise of staff within the clinical programs run by the Centre for Adolescent Health that target high risk young people, namely the Adolescent Forensic Health Service which provides health care to young people within juvenile justice, and the Young People’s Health Service which provides healthcare to homeless young people in Melbourne’s CBD.
