The RCH Alumni Gala Dinner 2016

Once again this function was held at Kew Golf Club, on Tuesday November 22nd 2016. There were 76 members and partners present and the CEO, Prof. Christine Kilpatrick, was an invited guest.

An excellent dinner was followed by an entertaining and informative presentation by the Alumni treasurer, Prof James (Jim) Wilkinson, introduced by the acting President Dr Hugo Gold.

The title to which Jim spoke, “Something Presumptuous in Provincial Genius” was a reference to a “critique” of a book (memoirs) of Dr Joseph Priestley published in 1804.

The talk related to the members of “The Lunar Society” which had been based in and around Jim Wilkinson’s city of origin – Birmingham. The story was illustrated with a large number of pictures of the main Lunar Members (or Lunatics as they were sometimes referred to) and their inventions, homes and achievements.
