Victorian Women’s Trust: Gender discrimination, racism and the health of women and children

Synopsis:The Victorian Women’s Trust invests in women and girls for positive social change. The Trust researches issues which affect their lives; works in key areas ranging from violence prevention to environmental sustainability; creates opportunities that spark ideas; advocates for reforms that improve conditions for women and girls; and works to ensure the public record better reflects their contribution and impact.

Speaker:Mary Crooks has a background in tertiary teaching, research and public policy. Last year she was the author of the book, A Switch in Time, part of a call to restore respect across the community and in our political discourse. In light of the debate around racism this week, Mary will explore the relationship between racism, sexism and the deleterious impacts on community well being, gender relations, and the health of mothers and children.
