Centre for Health Analytics Data Champions: “Ask not what you can do for the EMR, but what can the EMR do for the care we deliver”

 

Synopsis

Join us for a dynamic presentation showcasing the transformative journey of the Clinical Data Champion program at the Centre for Health Analytics (CHA). Led by Professor Jim Buttery and including Data Champions Katherine Frayman and Ann Le, and CHA Director Ross McKenzie, we’ll explore the program’s inception, evolution, and sustainability efforts. Through engaging narratives from Kath and Ann, discover key themes such as quality improvement, community building, and EMR data integration into clinical practice. Ross will then delve into the program’s impact and discuss future initiatives, highlighting CHA’s pivotal role in advancing healthcare through data-driven innovation.

 

Speakers

Dr Katherine Frayman is a Paediatric Respiratory Consultant and Quality Lead in the Department of Respiratory & Sleep Medicine, and one of two inaugural Clinical Data Champions at the Centre for Health Analytics. She has an interest in service development and streamlining of processes within and across multidisciplinary teams. Katherine has experience with “big (-omics) data”, clinical disease registries, longitudinal study design and follow up of clinical outcomes, and implementation of clinical practice change based on integration of her research outcomes.  She is keen to extract meaningful insight from existing data to achieve improvements in care delivery and patient outcomes.

Professor Jim Buttery is the inaugural Professor of Child Health Informatics at the University of Melbourne based at the Melbourne Children’s Campus Centre for Health Analytics. He is the Chief Research Information Officer and an infectious diseases physician at RCH. Jim is also the Head of Epidemiology and Signal Detection of SAEFVIC, the Victorian Immunisation Safety Service, and Group Head, Epi-informatics, at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, and the co-director of the Global Vaccine Data Network. Jim leads an epi-informatics team of epidemiologists, data analysts and statisticians whose research revolves around innovative use of real-world data to answer important questions in infectious diseases epidemiology, vaccine safety and effectiveness.

Ann Le has a background as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist and the clinic manager for the Children’s Pain Management Service at RCH. She has extensive skills and knowledge in improving processes within a specialist clinic and understands the specific data needs of the department. Ann can assist in formulating research questions, conducting data analysis, and extracting meaningful insights to drive improvements in patient outcomes.

Ross McKenzie is the Director for the Centre for Health Analytics and a committed leader in the healthcare industry. Ross has expertise in health system performance improvement, hospital reporting and analysis, hospital funding and policy, project delivery and change management. Ross has over a decade of experience in the Victorian healthcare and research sector and brings a well-rounded wealth of experience to the Centre.
