Synopsis

Neuro-Oncology had stagnated for several decades with little to no improvement in patient outcomes despite marked improvements in other areas of paediatric oncology. With the advent of advanced genomics and epigenomics and an explosion in our understanding of disease, we are finally seeing improvements. Dr Hansford will discuss the advances in modern Paediatric Neuro-Oncology and highlight the opportunities, problems and challenges as we push for better cure rates and quality of survivorship into the future for children with brain tumours.

Dr Jordan R. Hansford, BScH MSc MBBS FRACP, is the head of the Neuro-Oncology and Cancer Research groups of the Children’s Cancer Centre at The Royal Children’s Hospital. He is cross appointed as an Honorary Fellow at the MCRI, Honorary Senior and Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne and Monash University. He also serves as Principal Investigator for the Children’s Oncology Group and Vice-Chair of the Australia-New Zealand Children’s Haematology and Oncology Brain Tumour Group. His current research focuses on clinical trial development and modern diagnostics implementation in paediatric brain tumours.
