Refugee Week 2016

Synopsis

Refugee Week is Australia’s peak annual activity to raise awareness on the issues affecting refugees and celebrate the contributions made by refugees to Australian society. Refugee Week is held from Sunday to Saturday of the week that includes 20 June (World Refugee Day).

The RCH Immigrant Health Service is the longest running paediatric refugee health clinic in Australia. Over the last 15 years, the service has provided care across more than 12,000 patient attendances, at RCH and in-continuity with community health settings.  We have provided care for children of refugee backgrounds, for children and families seeking asylum, including those in detention in Australia and those who have spent time in Nauru. In addition, we have provided technical support to health and community services; education and training in health care needs for people who are refugees or seeking asylum, and advice to the Victorian Refugee Network and the Victorian Government.

This year, the immigrant health team will provide a personal perspective on refugee healthcare within RCH, and the impact of policies, politics, and media on our work.
