Caring for children with congenital hearing loss at the Melbourne Children’s

Synopsis

Did you know that the Melbourne Children’s is responsible for promoting the early detection of congenital hearing loss in every Victorian newborn baby? And that with early detection and intervention for such losses, the outcomes of these children can be improved significantly? Since the early 1990s, this campus has been involved in world-leading practice in the early detection of congenital hearing loss and research into outcomes of children with hearing loss. In this Grand Round we will describe the journey of a family whose newborn baby is diagnosed with congenital hearing loss, and the interventions to promote this baby’s health, development and outcomes. You will hear from leaders in the field of early detection, diagnosis, paediatrics and genetics about the current state of play, and what we hope for in the future for children with congenital hearing loss.

This Grand Round is being held during Hearing Awareness Week 2017 – http://www.hearingawarenessweek.org.au/
