SYNOPSIS:
Early identification and care of the deteriorating patient is one of the Federal Government’s 9 key National health priorities. RCH has made important changes to the way children who are deteriorating are identified. These changes were introduced on January 7. These include across all wards and in the emergency department: the introduction of the state-wide ViCTOR monitoring charts, the introduction of a Rapid Review System, and changes to MET and Code Blue calling. We will explain the background to these changes, and exactly what nurses, doctors and other staff members need to know to help implement the new system. The Grand Round will also be an opportunity to hear feedback from staff on their experience of the changes over the last month.
