Pneumonia

SYNOPSIS

Pneumonia is the dominant cause of childhood illness and death outside the neonatal age group.

Professor Mulholland will review the epidemiology of pneumonia, the impact of pneumococcal vaccines and current research programmes with particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region.

SPEAKER

Kim Mulholland is an Australian paediatrician jointly employed by London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute in Melbourne, where he has established pneumococcal research laboratories, and leads a group dedicated to vaccine related research in developing countries.

He currently leads a global pneumococcal microbiology project and significant vaccine related research programs in Fiji, Vietnam, Mongolia, Laos and Indonesia.

Prof Mulholland has previously worked with the MRC in the Gambia, WHO in Geneva and established the Centre for International Child Health at the University of Melbourne.
