New CPG: Food allergy – IgE mediated food allergy

The new Food allergy – IgE mediated food allergy CPG has been developed by the CPG Committee.

The Key points for the CPG are

  1. Recognition and management of anaphylaxis is the most important consideration in any child presenting with suspected food allergy
  2. A comprehensive history is key to distinguishing true allergy from other types of adverse food reaction
  3. A child must avoid food(s) suspected of causing an IgE-mediated reaction, but not similar foods that have previously been tolerated
  4. A child presenting with suspected food allergy should go home with an allergy action plan and appropriate follow-up
