Death of Dr Robert Kelly – Former head of Dermatology

Dr John Robert Kelly

11.4.1926 – 21.1.2019

The Alumni Executive regret to record the recent death of Dr John Robert Kelly.

Dr Kelly was a highly regarded Dermatologist who was a founder member of the Australasian College of Dermatologists and served for a number of years as its chief censor. He was head of the department of dermatology at The Royal Children’s Hospital and made significant contributions to Paediatric Dermatology. He is remembered as a highly respected and impeccably dressed professional member of the senior medical staff.

Those who benefitted from his teaching, during their training, remember him as a serious and austere individual, at first impression, who was quick to warm up and related well to children and their families. He had a wry sense of humour and a warm smile and had great diagnostic skill.

He leaves four surviving children (one daughter pre-deceased him) and ten grandchildren. Two of his sons (John and Robert) have followed him into Dermatology.
