Jim Rossiter AM 30/03/1931 – 15/02/2018

The Alumni note with sadness that Geelong paediatrician Jim Rossiter

died recently at the age of 86. Jim was, one of the first (if not the first?) regional paediatricians in Victoria, when he set up in practice as a paediatrician in Geelong, almost fifty years ago.

In the early 1980s, when Chairman of the Ethics Committee at Deakin University, Jim was the “whistleblower” in a notorious case of scientific fraud that was ultimately proven, albeit after the death of the perpetrator.

He was highly respected as a fine paediatrician. In the words of one of his former colleagues, “he was always very definite in his views but was a very strong advocate for children and families in the Barwon region”.
