The RCH Alumni Association mourns the passing of Don Kinsey, who was a familiar and popular figure at RCH over several decades
Don Kinsey AM (2/5/1931 – 30/8/2017)
Former Director of Public affairs at RCH, Don Kinsey, died from pancreatic cancer at Warringal Hospital on August 30th.
Don Kinsey led a life in the public domain. A broadcaster with 3DB radio in the fifties and sixes, station manager at Channel Seven, and more recently coordinator of the Good Friday Appeal.
His services to RCH were recognized in 1992 with a Chairman’s Medal and in 1995 with the Gold Medal. He was awarded an AM in the Queen’s birthday honours in 2008 “for Service to the community through public speaking programs and a range of executive roles with charitable, child health care and educational support organisations.”
He knew everyone in the hospital and was a very popular member of the Alumni.
Don will be remembered as a great communicator. His charm and warmth could put everyone at ease. His personal presentation was always clear and concise and delivered in carefully prepared and measured tones.
His presence at the Australian Grand Prix in the commentary box and in the paddock, was a huge asset to that event. He commentated at many other vintage car events.
Don presented training lectures to the volunteer guides at the Shrine of Remembrance and acted as master of ceremonies at various ceremonies associated with the Shrine.
He will be sadly missed.
