The Alumni Executive were saddened to learn of the passing of Margot Prior this week.
Margot came from a musical family and after leaving school completed a music degree at Melbourne University Conservatorium. She was a professional musician from 1959 to 1980, playing piano, Oboe and Cor Anglais in many chamber orchestras and music groups. During this period, she completed her PhD in Psychology at Monash University (1975/6). She went on to become a lecturer in Psychology at LaTrobe University and subsequently became the first female Professor of Clinical Psychology in Australia (1989). In 1994 she was appointed Head of the Psychology Department at the RCH with a conjoint appointment at The University of Melbourne.
She also founded the Learning Difficulties Centre at The Royal Children’s Hospital and was a co-opted member of the RCH Alumni executive for several years.
In her profile on the Alumni Website she remembers as highlights solo oboe recitals on the BBC, keynote addresses in the UK, USA, China, India, and Australia, and the work she did with RCH International in Vietnam.
We extend condolences to her family at this sad time.
