Restricted access to the hospital during our move to the new Royal Children’s Hospital

On Wednesday 30 November, visit the hospital only if you require emergency medical care, are an immediately family member of an inpatient or for pathology. The hospital will not be open for any other services.

The new Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) will officially ‘open for business’ at 8am on Wednesday 30 November as inpatients begin the move from the existing hospital to the new hospital via purpose-built internal passageways linking the two buildings.

The new RCH is located immediately next door to the current site on Flemington Road, Parkville.

Access to the new hospital will be restricted on the day of the move. So, unless your child requires urgent medical attention, it is recommended that you obtain medical treatment or advice from your family doctor on Wednesday 30 November.

However, if your child does require emergency medical attention, the Emergency Department at the new RCH will be able to help. It can be accessed via Entry 2 on Flemington Road.

The RCH Emergency Department will operate uninterrupted throughout the transition, and the new Emergency Department will begin accepting patients from 8am on Wednesday.

Other hospital facilities, including Specialist Clinics for outpatient appointments, will gradually open from Thursday 1 December.

Parking is available at the new hospital via Entry 1 and Entry 2 on Flemington Road.

Our contact details remain the same.
