MasterChef judges took a break from their television duties when they visited The RCH to teach patients about the importance of using fresh produce.
George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan showed their support for RCH Education Institute project ‘The Children’s Harvest’ by demonstrating to patients how to harvest their own fruit, vegetables and herbs.
“Theres only one type of food you should eat and it should be whole, it should be fresh and it should be real,” says Calombaris.
The chef’s visit was made more special when MasterChef generously donated the proceeds from a recent cooking challenge to support the harvest project.
The project allows students to engage in the investigation of real-life problems such as how to design, build and maintain a garden filled with seasonal produce.
RCH teacher, Emma Fraser, said The Children’s Harvest was a excellent inititiative.
“These are the sorts of things the kids have been doing in their schools and it’s nice that we can bring them from their school here to the hospital so they don’t miss out,” she said.
