Another record-breaking Good Friday Appeal cheque presentation!
Lewis and Pandora, the faces of the 2009 Good Friday Appeal, performed a final official duty when they presented a record breaking cheque for $13,862,734 to Royal Children’s Hospital chairman Tony Beddison AO.
Donors from all round Victoria contributed this amazing amount to support clinical care, research and family services at the RCH.
The Good Friday Appeal funds are directed to a number of areas in the hospital:
-
A significant portion of the funds will support research into childhood illnesses.
-
The hospital will purchase medical equipment such as a hearing assessment system for audiology, an $80k microscope for ENT, equipment to monitor patients during transfer between operating theatre and intensive care at a cost of $100k.
-
A burns nurse coordinator will be appointed to provide support and education in the hospital and the community
-
Macadamia, the hospital’s in-house TV program will remain on air to entertain children at their bedsides.
“All of us at the hospital were overwhelmed by this fantastic result,” said Mr Beddison. “The Royal Children’s Hospital already provides world class care for children from all over Australia. Thanks to the support of generous Victorians and the Good Friday appeal we are able to provide programs that set us apart, and make RCH a great children’s hospital.”
