Aston Crow has spent the past four and half months in isolation at The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) whilst undergoing a bone marrow transplant.

Aston has rare bone marrow disease called myelodysplastic syndrome, and a bone marrow transplant is his only chance of a cure. Yesterday, the brave three-year-old stepped outside for the first time since April. “He knew it was the big day and he was nagging the nurses all morning to let him outside,” mum Chris Crow said. “It was just beautiful – for him to sit on the grass was a big deal.”

After being bedridden for almost two months during treatment and intensive rehabilitation, Aston has fought hard to finally be able to leave his room. After walking all the way from his ward to the outside garden at the RCH, he enjoyed the afternoon sunshine, hearing the birds and blowing bubbles with his parents Chris and Wes.
