The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) is delighted to welcome Dr Peter Steer as our new Chief Executive Officer.

Chair of the RCH Board, Dr Rowena Coutts said that Dr Steer’s experience and proven track record positioned him as an outstanding choice for the hospital.
“With nearly three decades of leadership experience across some of the finest paediatric services around the world, I’m confident Dr Steer will help grow the RCH’s global reputation as a leading paediatric academic hospital,” Dr Coutts said.
“Dr Steer demonstrated a clear understanding of the complexities facing the broader health sector and showed a deep appreciation for what it takes to work with health service stakeholders and government partners, while building sustainable and efficient organisations.”
Dr Steer said he was honoured to be the RCH’s new CEO.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity to contribute to the RCH’s standing as an international leader in child and youth healthcare innovation,” Dr Steer said.
“Throughout my life I have remained a passionate advocate for improving the quality of children’s health. I started my career as a paediatrician and this passion is at the heart of my commitment to ensure every child has access to the highest quality care.”
“The RCH is known as one of the world’s great children’s hospitals – and it will be a privilege to play a leading part in this wonderful hospital’s future.”
Dr Steer’s extensive experience in children’s health in Australia and overseas is supported by significant research activity. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, he is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Paediatrics) and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Dr Steer will commence his role at the RCH on 3 March 2025.
