The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne clinicians have successfully separated twins Nima and Dawa in a six-hour operation today.
Today’s surgery involved a multi-disciplinary team of around 25 clinicians, including the Bhutan paediatrician who had treated them from birth and had flown over to observe the surgery.
Director of Surgery Dr Joe Crameri, who led the team, said today’s surgery went smoothly and the girls are now recovering well and breathing independently.
The RCH team will continue to monitor the girls overnight before they are moved to a ward for their continued recovery and care.
