Liamm Tokley went out under the anaesthetic giggling.

He could see Billie the Bear, also wearing a blue surgical cap and identification bracelet, also being put to sleep at the same time.

It was these little kind touches by Royal Children’s Hospital nurses towards the five-year-old that mum Sarah Tokley said erased any pre-surgery anxiety.

“When I got to him in recovery, they’d put Band-Aids on Billie in the same spot they had on Liamm,” Ms Tokley said.

“It was just something so sweet that the nurses did for him. It made such a big difference.”
