Abdominal trauma in children – something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue

SYNOPSIS

This Grand Round will outline the important and well established principles in the management of blunt abdominal trauma (something old), and demonstrate the degree to which these tenets are affirmed, challenged or refuted by advances in understanding and practice (something new).  Examples include the use of CT and ultrasound in the early management of abdominal trauma, as well as what paediatric vs. adult practices can inform selection of non-operative vs. operative management for solid organ injury (something borrowed).  Something blue?… you’ll need to come and listen to find out that one!
