Aboriginal Child Health is Everyone’s Business. What does this mean?

Synopsis:This Grand Round will highlight how Wadja Aboriginal Family Place as well as other RCH staff/Departments are working in partnership to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and young people.

Collaborative work in the areas of child health assessments, advocacy, liaison with community organisations, research, mental health, education, family support will be presented. Community outreach visits to Aboriginal Controlled Health Services in rural Victoria will be discussed.

The RCH new model of care for Aboriginal children – Wadja Aboriginal Family Place – was established in 2009 with the generous support of the RCH Foundation. In 2013, the RCH Executive signed a Statement of Intent to “Close the Gap” on Aboriginal health inequality, which recommitted RCH to improve the lives of Indigenous Australians, and in particular provide a better future for Indigenous children.

Our speakers  include Sharon Mongta and Selena White (Aboriginal Case Managers, RCH), Dr Margaret Rowell (Paediatrician Wadja Health Clinic, Developmental Medicine and Victorian Aboriginal Health Service), Dr Ric Haslam (Director Mental Health RCH), and Dr Renata Kukuruzovic (Paediatrician Wadja Aboriginal Health Clinic and General Medicine).
