Bringing together the evolutionary theory of life history and principles from evo-devo, Prof Hochberg will analyze child growth and development through the eyes of both evolutionary biologists and clinicians. He will show how transitions between unique life-history phases relate to adaptive responses such as body composition, stature, and differences between male and female development. He will also explore how these transitions can illuminate the sequence and mechanisms of child growth, and serve as diagnostic tools for growth disorders.
Speakers:Ze’ev Hochberg MD, PhD, is the director of Pediatric Endocrinology at Meyer Children’s Hospital at the Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa, Professor of Pediatrics and Endocrinology in the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel. He is the past President of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE), an author of over 300 peer-reviewed papers and most recently of “Evo-Devo of Child Growth”, a treatise on child growth and human evolution (Wiley, NY, 2011).
