Disability and family violence: learning from the voice of lived experience

Synopsis

Interpersonal violence against people with disabilities is a major public health concern. The COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences enhance the already increased risk for abuse among people with disabilities. This Grand Round provides both clinical strategies and a broader call to action for addressing family violence and coercive control against people with disabilities.

Nicole Lee is a survivor and advocate for women with disabilities who have been subjected to domestic and family violence.  Nicole shares her insights on how health workers can recognise and respond to the challenges and best support our patients and families.

Following Nicole’s presentation, she will joined by Dr Giuliana Antolovich and Dani Gold for a discussion about how we at the Royal Children’s Hospital can learn and adapt our response, ensuring a safe place for all.
