Synopsis:

Research throughout the small African county of The Gambia has provided many important lessons for the future of Global health. This seminar will discuss The contributions made by scientists working in the Gambia to reductions in child mortality, including demonstration of the impact of insecticide treated bednets, Haemophilus influenzae and pneumococcal conjugate vaccines in reducing child morbidity and mortality.

Speaker:

Sir Brian Greenwood is Professor of Clinical Tropical Medicine at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He has spent 50 years carrying out research in Africa. Through his simple but high-quality methods for clinical studies and field trials of drugs and vaccines he reinvented field research in tropical medicine. His work has led the way in seeking holistic solutions based on cutting-edge science as well as a genuine understanding of the complex eco-system and real-life challenges unique to Africa.
