Nursing: Improving health, promoting gender equality and supporting economic growth

Synopsis:

This presentation will highlight the significant nursing leadership that occurs through research and innovation on our campus and how this leadership reflects the World Health Organisation and the International Council of Nurses’ Nursing Now campaign. This campaign declares that improvement in health, promotion of gender equality, and the strengthening of economies are dependent upon the development of nurses internationally. Key nurse-led initiatives that demonstrate this leadership will be presented and discussed.

Speakers:

Professor Fiona Newall is the Donald Ratcliffe and Phyllis McLeod Director of Nursing Research at RCH and holds honorary appointments with The University of Melbourne and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.

Dr Sharon Kinney is a Nurse Consultant, Research at the RCH and a Senior Lecturer within the Department of Nursing at The University of Melbourne.

Together, Fiona and Sharon support the nursing workforce to engage in evidence-based practice, promote involvement in research activities to improve patient care and actively contribute to the organisation-wide approach to supporting and promoting inter-disciplinary clinical research.
