Apps, games and tech in healthcare: the rise of digital health and how Melbourne Children’s is leading the way

SYNOPSIS

Digital health is an umbrella term for the application of ICT and technology in healthcare, incorporating mobile health apps, wearable technologies such as the fitbit and Google glass, web-based research and clinical decision support tools, and the re-purposing of gaming technologies, such as the Xbox kinect, for health applications.

 

This Grand Round will provide an overview of the global trends in digital health, challenges and barriers to implementation, and how Melbourne Children’s is approaching the field. Live demos of products in development will be provided.

 

 

SPEAKERS

Dr James Dromey is Head of Commercialisation and Legal at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute. James has worked for more than 17 years in health and medical research, both as a research scientist and in technology innovation and commercialisation. James and his team work closely with research and clinical staff across campus to support new product development. A pipeline of more than 50 projects across drugs, medical devices, diagnostics and digital health has been established with 6 products now on the market.

 

 

Mohinder Jaimangal is an avid entrepreneur and robotics engineer with experience across the entire software and solution development lifecycle with a love of interaction design and Agile development methodologies. He is Co-founder of Curve Tomorrow, a Melbourne-based technology company aimed at bringing health innovations to market by combining the latest technology with proven medical research. Curve Tomorrow is working with MCRI to develop new digital health products.
