{"id":9899,"date":"2022-12-05T15:48:37","date_gmt":"2022-12-05T04:48:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/?p=9899"},"modified":"2022-12-05T15:50:26","modified_gmt":"2022-12-05T04:50:26","slug":"champions-for-children-meet-anna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/champions-for-children-meet-anna\/","title":{"rendered":"Champions for Children: Meet Anna"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Creating a positive environment for her patients is the number one goal for Anna<\/strong>\u2014<strong>our wonderful Acting Nurse Unit Manager of the Day Medical Unit and Overnight Accommodation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite loving being around other people, mother of three Anna considers herself more of an introvert who loves the country lifestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Anna began her nursing career in her late thirties, some 15 years after first considering a career in nursing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI began my journey at the RCH in 2008 where I started as an enrolled nurse (EN) and was blessed to work with oncology outpatients,\u201d Anna shared. \u201cIt was a mix of nursing and admin which was perfect for me as nursing was so new, but admin work wasn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9900\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9900\" style=\"width: 332px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-9900\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2022\/12\/EXT_4410_pp-1-e1670215706704-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"332\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2022\/12\/EXT_4410_pp-1-e1670215706704-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2022\/12\/EXT_4410_pp-1-e1670215706704.jpg 420w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 332px) 100vw, 332px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9900\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Meet Anna<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When you fast forward 14 years to today, Anna is now achieving goals she never envisaged for herself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy goal was to complete my RN degree, and I would have been happy with just that achievement at my age.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2012, I completed my bachelor\u2019s degree and a year later finished the RCH Graduate Nurse Program. During my time at the RCH I have worked towards becoming a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Clinical Support Nurse, Associate Unit Manager and now a Nurse Unit Manager (NUM).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never expected to be in a NUM role within 10 years of nursing\u2014or at all! Now, as a leader, the aim is to support my staff in ensuring we deliver high quality care to all our patients and families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In her new role, Anna continues to strive towards making her patients hospital journey a positive one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the area I currently work in, my patients are mostly frequent flyers.\u00a0I get to watch them grow and thrive into adults.
