{"id":8876,"date":"2021-06-15T12:55:04","date_gmt":"2021-06-15T02:55:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/?p=8876"},"modified":"2021-06-15T13:08:10","modified_gmt":"2021-06-15T03:08:10","slug":"congratulations-paul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/congratulations-paul\/","title":{"rendered":"Congratulations, Paul!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to RCH Pastoral and Spiritual Care Coordinator Paul Hammat who has been awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in this year&#8217;s Queen&#8217;s Birthday Honours.<\/p>\n<p>Paul has been working at the RCH for the past nine years and says receiving an OAM is an honour.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Quite honestly it feels a bit surreal. I consider this honour to be shared with the great team of spiritual care practitioners I work with at the RCH and the many colleagues from across Australia who I have worked with through Spiritual Care Australia, the professional body for Spiritual Care Practitioners in Australia,&#8221; says Paul.<\/p>\n<p>While Paul has had to change the way he works during the COVID-19 pandemic, pastoral and spiritual care remains as important as ever and finds providing a listening ear to be one of the most rewarding parts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Spiritual Care takes a holistic view of the person including the following five domains \u2013 physical needs, social needs, spiritual needs, emotional needs, and psychological needs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Spiritual Care can make a difference to the experience of patients and families just as the care of many disciplines can impact consumer experience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Paul is also joined by:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Gillian Sparkes AM, RCH Foundation Board Member \u2013<\/strong> For significant service to environmental sustainability, and to public administration.<\/p>\n<p><b>Mrs Louise Mary Gourlay OAM AM, Patron of the RCH Auxilaries <strong>\u2013<\/strong><\/b>\u00a0For significant service to the community through charitable initiatives.<\/p>\n<p><b>Ms Mary McGowan OAM,<\/b> <b>Long serving Children\u2019s Cancer nurse and community participation lead <strong>\u2013<\/strong><\/b>\u00a0For service to nursing, and to the community through charitable initiatives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mrs Beverley Noonan OAM, Parkville Auxiliary Member \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0For service to the community through charitable organisations.<\/p>\n<p><b>Dr Miriam Weisz OAM<\/b>, <b>RCH Foundation Auxiliaries President<\/b> <strong>\u2013<\/strong> For service to community health.<\/p>\n<p><b>Dr Igor Konstantinov OAM,<\/b> <b>Cardiac Surgeon<\/b>&#8211; For service to medicine as a cardiothoracic surgeon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to RCH Pastoral and Spiritual Care Coordinator Paul Hammat who has been awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in this year&#8217;s Queen&#8217;s Birthday Honours.
