{"id":773,"date":"2006-12-26T14:46:05","date_gmt":"2006-12-26T03:46:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/inthenews\/?p=773"},"modified":"2015-04-29T14:14:40","modified_gmt":"2015-04-29T04:14:40","slug":"christmas-celebrations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/christmas-celebrations\/","title":{"rendered":"Christmas celebrated in style at the RCH"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_774\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-774\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/2006\/12\/26\/christmas-celebrations\/gov-and-clown\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-774\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-774 \" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2011\/11\/gov-and-clown.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"139\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-774\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Welcome: Governor De Kretser, MFB clown David and RCH CEO Tony Cull start Christmas Day festivities at the helipad.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Royal Children&#8217;s Hospital (RCH) and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) gave the best present they could on Christmas Day &#8211; smiles on patients&#8217; faces.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Official Christmas Day celebrations began with the arrival of the MFB&#8217;s Once-a-Year Club, which included firefighters, musicians and clowns who rolled up in a double decker bus and a variety of historical fire appliances.<\/p>\n<p>Arriving at the helipad, the colourful bunch continued a 78-year-tradition of visiting each patient in the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Governor and Mrs de Kretser also visited, joining Chief Executive Officer Tony Cull on a tour of the hospital to meet patients, families and staff members.<\/p>\n<p>After many stops, songs and smiles, the group finished up in the back cafeteria for some refreshments and a rousing rendition of For He&#8217;s Jolly Good Fellow &#8211; the traditional song of the day.<\/p>\n<p>Particular mention goes to Santa for his hard work in captivating adults and children alike as he handed out presents and visited the families.
