\"\"<\/a>The RCH took out two wins and a highly commended across two categories at last night\u2019s Victorian Public Healthcare Awards.<\/p>\n

Winner – The Secretary\u2019s Award for improving integration of care for patients with chronic and complex conditions:\u00a0<\/strong>Care is a Partnership<\/p>\n

Winner –\u00a0Improving children\u2019s health:\u00a0<\/strong>Pioneering clinical genomics in undiagnosed children to find answers and change lives \u2013 a joint submission of the Victorian Clinical Genetics Service, Melbourne Genomics Health Alliance and The Royal Children\u2019s Hospital<\/p>\n

Highly Commended:\u00a0<\/strong>New enhanced recovery pathway after spinal fusion delivers improved outcomes<\/p>\n

John Stanway, CEO of the RCH, accepted the Secretary\u2019s Award with the Care is a Partnership team.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe team has been working on this new model of care for children with complex and chronic illness. What they\u2019ve built is unique to Australian paediatric healthcare and has significantly improved the care we provide for these patients and their families,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The project culminated in the launch of the Complex Care Hub<\/a> in August this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis service now provides support for more than 140 children, through nurse-led care that is coordinated, flexible and integrated. It has improved family and staff satisfaction, and led to a sustained reduction in the use of inpatient, emergency and outpatient resources.\u201d<\/p>\n

John also said it was great to see our people being recognised for their research collaborations and congratulated the team from the RCH, Victorian Clinical Genetics Service, and Melbourne Genomics Health Alliance for their win in the Improving Children\u2019s Heath Category.<\/p>\n

In the same category, RCH Physiotherapist Sarah Temby was highly commended for her Enhanced Recovery Pathway for children undergoing spinal fusion surgery which has delivered some fantastic outcomes for both patients and the hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cSarah\u2019s work has seen us sending these patients home three days earlier on average, without compromising their safety or quality of care. That\u2019s a win for the patients obviously, but is helping to free up resources for other patients.\u201d<\/p>\n
