{"id":5932,"date":"2017-03-06T18:07:39","date_gmt":"2017-03-06T07:07:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/?p=5932"},"modified":"2017-03-07T18:28:16","modified_gmt":"2017-03-07T07:28:16","slug":"and-hes-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/and-hes-off\/","title":{"rendered":"And he&#8217;s off&#8230; Flying for the Kids!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Sunday, Associate Professor Andrew Kornberg took-off in front of a crowd of thousands from the Australian International Airshow to begin his fundraising adventure like no one \u2014 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flyforthekids.org.au\">Fly for the Kids.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fly for the Kids will see Andrew circumnavigate Australia, flying solo throughout March, raising funds for the 2017 Good Friday Appeal. This incredible journey will take Andrew 27 days. He will stop in 38 locations and spend more than 64 hours in the air.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5934\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2017\/03\/0503-Avalon-Air-Show-32-Resized-400x266.jpg\" alt=\"0503-avalon-air-show-32-resized\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2017\/03\/0503-Avalon-Air-Show-32-Resized-400x266.jpg 400w, https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2017\/03\/0503-Avalon-Air-Show-32-Resized.jpg 560w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the Airshow, Andrew took the opportunity to meet with RCH families and aviation enthusiasts alike. Not only did he receive incredible support from the RCH community, but attendees at the Airshow were keen to meet him and hear more about his incredible journey.<\/p>\n<p>7 News Melbourne and the Herald Sun were also at the Airshow to cover Andrew\u2019s take-off. Born with cerebral palsy and epilepsy, Archer and his family travel from Adelaide every few months to see Andrew at the RCH.<\/p>\n<p>Archer\u2019s mum Vikki said: \u201cAndrew\u2019s an amazing man and he\u2019s doing an amazing thing with Fly for the Kids. We are forever grateful to him for his time, his care and his commitment to helping kids like Archer. He blows us away and we hope that Fly for the Kids is a big success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fly for the Kids fundraising will support RCH patients with Complex Movement Disorders.
