RCH Dispensary Manager, Molika In<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Sunday September 25\u00a0is World Comic Book\u00a0Day, World Dream\u00a0Day, but most importantly to us, it’s World Pharmacists Day!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Have you seen Pharmacy Dispensary Manager, Molika, when you\u2019ve visited the RCH? She\u2019s described as the \u201chub of the department\u201d by her colleagues.<\/span><\/p>\n

What does a dispensary manager do? Are you the only one?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“I am the only dispensary manager at the RCH and the main function of my job is\u00a0<\/span>making sure pharmacy services can be provided each day to both inpatients and outpatients.”<\/span><\/p>\n

What does your typical day look like?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“There is no typical day – each day will usually deliver some type of \u201ccurve ball\u201d to keep me on my toes!”<\/span><\/p>\n

“But if there was one, it would start with a brief meeting to help allocate available staff to all the pharmacist work. Then it\u2019s off to the dispensary to meet with staff and ensure that inpatient, outpatient and posted medications for the day are all dispensed. I also meet with patients, their carers, doctors and nurses to discuss various medication-related inquiries. I also put time aside for\u00a0administrative tasks, and keep on top of our supplies\u00a0to ensure we have\u00a0our more\u00a0unusual medicines.”<\/span><\/p>\n

How big is the pharmacy team at the RCH?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“We have around 10 pharmacy technicians,\u00a0<\/span>four\u00a0intern pharmacists,\u00a0two\u00a0administrative assistants and 25 pharmacists. The team is quite large and we are all rarely in the one place at the one time.”<\/span><\/p>\n

What do you enjoy most about being a pharmacist?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“Being a pharmacist is enjoyable because I know that every day my contribution may have helped someone achieve better health. This is very satisfying.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
