{"id":5514,"date":"2016-07-18T17:21:30","date_gmt":"2016-07-18T07:21:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/?p=5514"},"modified":"2016-07-19T10:05:16","modified_gmt":"2016-07-19T00:05:16","slug":"dr-mark-mackay-a-true-stroke-champion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/dr-mark-mackay-a-true-stroke-champion\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr Mark MacKay wins national stroke award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>RCH\u00a0Neurologist Dr Mark MacKay has been\u00a0named\u00a0the 2016 Stroke Care Champion for his outstanding dedication and commitment to Australia\u2019s youngest stroke patients.<\/p>\n<p>Dr MacKay has worked tirelessly to increase the awareness of childhood stroke and improve the quality of care child stroke patients receive.<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0said he was humbled and honoured to have his work recognised.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am honoured to receive this award as it acknowledges the importance of my work to improve outcomes for children and families affected by stroke,\u201d Dr MacKay said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am proud my work has improved knowledge of risk factors for childhood stroke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is vital we ensure that children receive the same benefits of advances in stroke care that have transformed outcomes for adults, and\u00a0to ensure families receive appropriate information about causes of stroke and potential consequences of stroke for their child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stroke Foundation CEO\u00a0Sharon McGowan it was a pleasure to\u00a0see\u00a0Dr MacKay win the award, recognising his outstanding and ongoing commitment to paediatric stroke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr MacKay\u2019s unrelenting passion and commitment to his patients is to be commended.
