Joan told host Neil Mitchell that she’d suffered a heart attack on a footpath in the country town of Yarrawonga and a man who she knew only as ‘Darren’ managed to stabilise her and accompanied her to hospital.

The mystery Good Samaritan was later identified as Royal Children’s Hospital long serving nurse Darren Pickering. Darren was humble in the media spotlight and said he hoped anyone else would do the same thing if they were in his situation.
